Social workers often are the first to see the barriers to care, the impact of stigma, and concerns of people living with HIV/AIDS. Channel these frustrations into advocacy! Learn the basics of what you can and can’t do as an employee of a non-profit, how to advocate while protecting clients’ privacy, and the basics of reaching out to legislators, crafting your message, and more!

Learning Objectives: 

1.       Participants will learn what advocacy they can perform as an employee of 501c3 organizations.

2.       Participants will learn how to translate personal issues of clients into broader policy issues and asks.

3.       Participants will learn the basics on how to effectively reach legislators through phone, e-mail, social media, 

          and in-person meetings.

4.       Participants will learn the most important federal advocacy issues related to HIV and social work.
