Strategies in Self-Leadership
Investing in Yourself to be the BEST Leader you can be.
Overview
This module is designed to orient you to the series. Take the time to orient yourself to each of the sessions in this series. We recommend completing the introduction session before other sessions in the series. Following sessions, however, can be completed in any order based on your own interest. Each session provides a short video focused on a key learning principle, tools to integrate the learning into practice, and reflective questions for personal growth. In addition to the video, resources, tools, and additional readings are available.
Why this course? To deliver relevant social services and expand housing options efficiently and effectively, nonprofit leaders need knowledge about self-leadership and its relationship to the capacity and success of their organizations. Leaders create a vision for their organization, establish a constructive climate, and overcome obstacles. Grounded in leadership theory, this series will provide an opportunity for personal reflection, organizational examination, and opportunity for suggested change.
In addition, to the Introduction, the series contains five self-leadership:
- Session 1: Looking in the Mirror: The Art of Reflective Practice
- Session 2: Caringly Aware: The Vulnerable Leader
- Session 3: Intentionally Present: Leading in Times of Crisis
- Session 4: Separation Anxiety: Leading Remotely
- Session 5: Small Changes Make Lasting Gains: Leadership Growth Strategy
Series Objectives
- Upon completion, participants will gain an understanding of key self-leadership strategies and their connection to improved organizational capacity.
- Upon completion, participants will be able to Identify and use self-leadership tools to enhance practice and organization capacity.
- Upon completion, participants will be able to implement self-leadership tools to address collective trauma and building organizational capacity and resiliency.

Russell L. Bennett, LGSW, PhD
CEO
Collaborative Solutions , Inc
Dr. Bennett is the CEO of Collaborative Solutions, Inc. He provides national TA, research, consultation, and capacity building around affordable housing, social determinants of health, and services for low-income, vulnerable populations. He has over 20 years of experience working with issues related to homelessness and housing for persons with AIDS. Bennett has experience in working with nonprofit organizations and the Federal government. He is a designated HUD TA trainer and consultant for such programs and systems as HOPWA, SNAPS Homeless, HMIS, and IDIS. Bennett currently serves as the Executive Director of the Low Income Housing Coalition of Alabama and the Professional Association of Social Workers in HIV & AIDS since CS was appointed to serve as the management agent for those entities. Bennett also serves as the Principal Investigator on CS’ research/evaluation projects including as lead evaluator for the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.
Dr. Kerry Littlewood
Instructor
University of South Florida
Dr. Kerry Littlewood holds a master’s degree (2003) and doctorate (2008) in Social Work (UNC). Dr. Littlewood is an instructor at the University of South Florida. Dr. Littlewood specializes in program evaluation, community-based participatory research, randomized control trials, and using mixed methods approaches to better understand at-risk children, families, and kinship caregivers. Dr. Littlewood has two decades of expertise in designing and evaluating programs to support families. Selected examples of Dr. Littlewood’s RCTs and quasi-experimental studies include the KIN Tech Trial, COMRADE Trial, the EMPOWER Trial, SLIDE Trial, LEAD Trial, and the Triple P NC evaluation.
